Data quality and integrity will always be paramount for any researcher and are essential for science. It is therefore critical to implement a methodology designed to minimise the risks associated with data integrity and quality. There are two main methods for ensuring the integrity of data: one focuses on the collection of the data at the time of entry; the other focuses on the validity of collected data. Data Entry Principles At the time of data entry, the key principle for ensuring data integrity is "information ownership". During data entry, the data collector should ensure that the data are recorded with his/her complete ownership. Upon completion of the data entry, the data collector should sign the forms and return them to the administrator for verification. This process is carried out once each time a batch of forms is taken to the ethics committee and it is intended to ensure that the data collector has absolute ownership of the data. The second data quality principal is "to not manipulate data once entered". Data collectors should not add information or change data in the database once the data have been entered. Any changes must be noted on the original form, signed and returned to the administrator. If the initial data collector is no longer present or is unwilling or unable to verify the accuracy of the data after verification, a new data collector must be hired to validate the data. Data Validation Principles The second major method for ensuring the data integrity of a project is to validate the data and ensure that data collectors are not adding, editing or removing information. The data collection administrator is responsible for verifying the data collection. Data collection administrators should train data collectors in good data collection practices. They can be given a checklist to validate that data collectors have not changed, added or removed data. The data collectors must be directed by the data collection administrator who is responsible for ensuring that they are not breaking any of the principles . . Solvophilic microgel swelling as a result of their contact with other solvents is known to be driven by thermally-induced nonspecific diffusion of solvent molecules. This solvent mobility results in considerable time-dependent deformation of the microgel and observable changes of properties of microgels in contact with solvent. We investigate the effect of such thermally-driven solvent motions on the properties of microgels in various solvents by modeling gel swelling-induced microgel stretching using a phenomenological model. As a measure of the temporal dependence of microgel deformation, we introduce the ratio of the total elastic energy to that of the stretched microgel. In addition to the conventional model, the proposed model includes the effect of friction between the solvent molecules and the microgel. We find that the friction-induced modification of the time evolution of microgel deformation is similar in all solvents, while the properties of the stretched microgel are influenced by the presence of the solvent friction in the different solvents. Also, the behavior of the friction-induced relaxation of the stretched microgel is solvent-dependent.// SPDX-License-Identifier: GPL-2.0 /* Copyright (c) 2018, The Linux Foundation.
